Discover smart and creative ways to enjoy watermelon that save money, reduce waste, and keep your summer snacks juicy and delicious. These hacks include clever cutting techniques, refreshing infused drinks, and flavorful seasoning ideas.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 46 pounds seedless watermelon, ripe and sweet
  • A small handful fresh mint leaves, roughly chopped
  • Juice of 1 fresh lime or lemon
  • Pinch of sea salt or flavored salt (optional)
  • 12 tablespoons honey or agave syrup (optional)
  • Chili powder or TajΓn seasoning (optional)
  • 1 small cucumber, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 2 cups fizzy water or sparkling lemonade

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the watermelon thoroughly under cold water.
  2. Place the watermelon on a cutting board and slice off both ends to create flat surfaces.
  3. Stand the watermelon upright and cut it in half lengthwise, then slice halves into quarters if desired.
  4. Lay each quarter flat and carefully slice off the rind, keeping as much red flesh as possible.
  5. Cut watermelon into cubes, wedges, or sticks (for watermelon fries, cut into long sticks about 1/2 inch thick).
  6. In a large bowl, toss watermelon pieces with lime juice, a pinch of salt, and optional honey or chili powder. Stir gently.
  7. For infused water, combine watermelon cubes with sparkling water or lemonade, add mint leaves and a squeeze of lime, and chill for 15-20 minutes.
  8. Arrange watermelon hacks on a serving tray, garnish with fresh mint leaves, and serve immediately or store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.

Notes

Use a sharp knife to avoid bruising the watermelon and losing juice. Chill watermelon before cutting for easier slicing and better texture. Adjust salt and spices to taste, starting with small amounts. Store leftovers in airtight containers and consume within 2 days. For infused water, drink within 1 day for best flavor and fizz. Grilled watermelon slices can be served warm or at room temperature but avoid microwaving.
