A cozy, crowd-pleasing dip featuring shredded chicken, buffalo sauce, and cheeses served in a hollowed bread bowl, perfect for gatherings and game nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked shredded chicken (rotisserie chicken works great for ease)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup buffalo wing sauce
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing or blue cheese dressing
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 large round sourdough or Italian bread loaf (about 810 inches diameter)
  • Optional garnishes: extra shredded cheddar or blue cheese crumbles, fresh parsley or cilantro

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Using a serrated knife, cut a circle about 2 inches from the top of the loaf. Carefully hollow out the inside, leaving about a 1-inch thick shell all around. Save the bread bits for dipping later.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, buffalo wing sauce, and ranch dressing. Stir until smooth and creamy, about 1-2 minutes. Microwave briefly (10-15 seconds) if cream cheese isn’t soft enough.
  4. Add shredded chicken, shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, garlic powder, and green onions. Fold gently but thoroughly until well incorporated. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Spoon the dip into the hollowed bread bowl, packing it in but not overflowing. Sprinkle a little extra cheddar on top for a golden crust.
  6. Place the filled bread bowl on a baking sheet or oven-safe skillet. Bake for 20-25 minutes until cheese is melted, bubbly, and the top is lightly golden.
  7. Remove from oven and let cool for about 5 minutes to thicken slightly.
  8. Serve warm with the reserved bread chunks, celery sticks, or crackers.

Notes

To prevent soggy bread, lightly toast the hollowed bread bowl inside edges for 5 minutes before filling. If dip is too runny before baking, baking time will help it set. Tent with foil if bread edges brown too quickly. Leftover dip thickens when chilled; reheat gently. For a lighter option, substitute ranch dressing with Greek yogurt. Use rotisserie chicken for ease or freshly cooked shredded chicken. Adjust buffalo sauce to taste for desired spice level.
