Creamy Spider Web Buffalo Chicken Dip: 5-Ingredient Halloween Recipe

creamy spider web buffalo chicken dip - featured image

A spooky and delicious Halloween appetizer featuring a unique stringy, web-like texture created by intentionally separating cream cheese and mozzarella. This easy, 20-minute dip combines buffalo sauce, ranch, and shredded chicken for a crowd-pleasing treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup buffalo sauce
  • 2 cups cooked and shredded chicken
  • ¼ cup ranch dressing
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken by shredding cooked rotisserie or breast meat into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Cut the cream cheese into small cubes and let it soften at room temperature for 30 minutes, or microwave for 10 seconds until soft but not melted.
  3. Place a medium saucepan or non-stick skillet over medium-low heat. Add the softened cream cheese and stir gently with a wooden spoon, breaking cubes apart as they soften (about 3-4 minutes). Do not let it boil.
  4. Once the cream cheese is mostly smooth, add the buffalo sauce and ranch dressing. Stir until combined into a thick, glossy paste.
  5. Add the shredded chicken to the pan and fold it in gently to coat every piece without breaking it up further.
  6. Sprinkle the cheddar and mozzarella cheese over the mixture. Stop stirring and let the residual heat melt the cheese for about 1 minute.
  7. Gently fold the cheese in, leaving some long strands of mozzarella intact to create the ‘web’ effect. Do not mix until fully melted.
  8. Pour the dip into a serving bowl and serve immediately with sturdy chips, pretzels, or celery sticks.

Notes

[‘Do not overmix the cheese; gentle folding is key to achieving the stringy web texture.’, ‘Keep heat on low or medium-low to prevent the cream cheese from burning or separating.’, ‘Use low-moisture mozzarella for better melting and stringiness.’, ‘If the dip is too thin, add more cream cheese or chicken. If too thick, add a splash of milk.’, ‘This dip is best served fresh. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated gently on the stove.’]
