A quick and balanced weeknight dinner featuring salmon fillets baked with a sticky honey-soy glaze, served alongside crisp-tender sesame broccoli. This recipe relies on simple pantry staples for a sweet and savory flavor profile.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 4 salmon fillets (about 6 oz each)
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, freshly cracked
  • 1 large head broccoli, cut into florets
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon extra soy sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine soy sauce, honey, apple cider vinegar, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Whisk and simmer for 3-4 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat.
  3. Pat salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Season both sides with sea salt and black pepper. Place on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Brush half of the glaze generously over the top of each salmon fillet.
  5. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the salmon flakes easily with a fork and reaches an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C). The glaze should bubble and caramelize.
  6. While salmon bakes, toss broccoli florets with vegetable oil and salt. Roast on a separate pan for the last 10 minutes of salmon cooking, or steam on stovetop for 4-5 minutes until crisp-tender.
  7. Transfer broccoli to a serving bowl. Drizzle with remaining 1 tablespoon soy sauce and toss. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds.
  8. Plate salmon alongside broccoli and serve immediately.

Notes

For a gluten-free version, swap soy sauce for Tamari. If you like a darker glaze, broil the salmon for the last 1-2 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning. Fresh ginger is recommended over jarred for better flavor. Salmon continues to cook slightly after removal from the oven, so remove it when it looks just barely done in the center.
