Spiderweb Taco Dip - featured image

This Easy Spiderweb Taco Dip is a fun, festive, and crowd-pleasing Halloween appetizer that comes together in about 15 minutes. With a creamy, layered taco dip featuring a spiderweb design etched into the sour cream, it’s simple enough for a weeknight yet impressive enough for any potluck or party.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (16 oz) refried beans
  • 2 packets (1 oz each) taco seasoning
  • 1 cup water, divided
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded Mexican blend cheese
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce (iceberg)
  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (extra, for spiderweb)
  • Pickled jalapeños (optional)
  • Tortilla chips (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine refried beans, 1 packet taco seasoning, and 1/2 cup water. Stir until smooth and spreadable. Spread evenly in the bottom of a 9-inch pie dish.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook for 5-7 minutes until browned. Drain excess fat. Add the second packet of taco seasoning and 1/2 cup water. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until thickened.
  3. Let meat cool for 2 minutes. Spread softened cream cheese over the bean layer, then spoon the cooked meat over the cream cheese and spread gently.
  4. Spread 1 cup sour cream over the meat layer, smoothing it evenly with the back of a spoon.
  5. Spoon the extra 1/2 cup sour cream into a zip-top bag. Snip off a tiny corner (about 1/8 inch). Pipe concentric circles starting from the center outward. Use a toothpick or knife tip to drag from the center through all circles to the edge, repeating every inch around the dip to create a spiderweb pattern. Wipe the toothpick clean between each drag.
  6. Sprinkle shredded cheese around the edges, avoiding the web. Add lettuce, tomato, olives, and green onions in the outer ring. Add jalapeños if desired. Keep the center web visible.
  7. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving. Serve with tortilla chips.

Notes

For the cleanest spiderweb lines, dip your toothpick in water before each drag. Make sure cream cheese is truly softened to avoid lumps. Do not overload toppings; keep them in the outer ring. The dip can be assembled (without toppings) up to 24 hours in advance. For best results, use sturdy chips like Tostitos Scoops.
