Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground turkey, preferably lean but not extra-lean
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese, sharp or mild
  • 8 small slider buns, soft and slightly sweet (brioche recommended)
  • 1 medium tomato, thinly sliced
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 small romaine or iceberg lettuce leaves
  • Pickles, sliced (optional)
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) breadcrumbs, plain or seasoned
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Condiments: mayo, mustard, or favorite burger sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep the veggies: Thinly slice tomato, red onion, and pickles. Rinse and pat dry lettuce leaves. Set aside in fridge to keep fresh and crisp.
  2. Mix the patty ingredients: In a medium mixing bowl, combine ground turkey, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  3. Form the patties: Divide mixture into 8 equal portions (~2 ounces / 56 g each). Shape into small patties roughly the size of slider buns. Press a slight indentation in the center of each patty.
  4. Cook the patties: Heat a non-stick skillet or grill pan over medium heat. Lightly oil the surface. Cook patties about 4-5 minutes per side. Add a slice of cheddar on top when flipping to melt. Ensure internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  5. Toast the buns: Slice slider buns in half and toast lightly in another pan or under broiler until golden and slightly crisp.
  6. Assemble the sliders: Spread condiments on bottom bun halves. Layer lettuce, turkey patty with melted cheddar, tomato slices, red onion, and pickles if using. Top with bun lid and gently press down.
  7. Serve immediately while cheddar is gooey and veggies are crisp.

Notes

Do not overmix the turkey to keep patties tender. Press a slight indentation in the center of patties to prevent puffing. Cook on medium heat to avoid drying out. Toast buns to add texture and prevent sogginess. Use a meat thermometer to ensure safe internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). For gluten-free, substitute breadcrumbs with gluten-free crackers or almond flour and use gluten-free buns or lettuce wraps. Melting cheddar on top during last minute of cooking is key for gooey texture.
