A simple, fresh, and easy-to-make summer cocktail combining muddled blueberries, fresh lemon juice, vodka, and simple syrup for a perfectly balanced, crowd-pleasing drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries (frozen can be used, thawed and drained)
  • 1 ½ cups (360 ml) vodka
  • Juice of 4 large fresh lemons (about ½ cup or 120 ml)
  • ½ cup (120 ml) simple syrup (homemade or store-bought)
  • 2 cups (480 ml) cold water or sparkling water
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Place 1 cup of fresh blueberries in a pitcher or mixing glass. Using a muddler or the back of a spoon, gently crush the berries until they release their juice and the mixture looks vibrant and slightly pulpy (about 2 minutes).
  2. Roll the lemons on the counter to soften them, then cut in half and juice until you have about ½ cup (120 ml) of fresh lemon juice. Remove any seeds.
  3. Add 1 ½ cups (360 ml) vodka, ½ cup (120 ml) simple syrup, and 2 cups (480 ml) cold water or sparkling water to the muddled blueberries. Stir gently to blend flavors without losing bubbles if using sparkling water (about 2 minutes).
  4. Fill glasses with plenty of ice cubes, then pour the cocktail mixture over the top. Stir lightly to chill the drink evenly.
  5. Garnish each glass with a sprig of fresh mint and a few whole blueberries. Serve immediately.

Notes

Muddle gently to avoid bitterness from crushed seeds. Use fresh lemon juice for best flavor. Chill glasses before serving for a longer-lasting cold drink. Adjust sweetness and water amount to taste. For a smoother drink, strain through a fine mesh sieve. Can be made ahead by mixing all ingredients except ice and mint, stored up to 24 hours in the fridge.
